The Social Revolution; people and information based internet has been well and truly underway for a while now.  This "Web 2.0" change has been led by the ever increasing number of blogs and bloggers.  It is said there are millions of blogs online right now, and hundreds coming online each day.  Free online blogging services such as blogger & wordpress have been key to this new type of internet.

Just as the internet has changed, so have the search engines and information directories that help people find that information.  As you may imagine then, it's naturally going to be essential to keep up to date with the search engine changes in order to get your websites or blogs well listed.

The key to good blogging

In truth, there are countless ways you can best benefit from your blogging efforts.  These range from the types of posts you make, your blog setup and the categories you use.  While these types of small changes (which i will be discussing in the coming weeks) are great for your blog, there are 3 essential steps you should take each time you blog to ensure (often immediate) results.

  • Blog Title / Key Words

The very first, and often the most ignored or forgotten thing to do is be very selective about what key words and phrases you use for your post.  These key phrases should also be your blog post headline, or at least included in it.  If, for example, you are blogging about a movie review for the movie "Twilight", your headline should besure to include the words "Twilight" and "Review", preferably as a single phrase.  Your blog post itself should include this, and similar key phrases a number of times.  When search engines spider your site and find your blog post, you want them to recognise which phrases are the most important; which this step does.

  • Tagging

Whether you use Blogger, Wordpress or any other type of blog system you should ALWAYS tag your posts.  Tagging is an extension to your blog post itself and assists the search engines in listing your blog post in their systems.  Not only that, but tagging will also provide your blog with extra links within its sitemap for the search engines to pick up and list.  These extra tag pages further provide "page rank" opportunities for your site.  Tagging also plays a key role in the 3rd step, below.

  • Social Submissions

This step is the most un-used of all of them, simply because many still do not know the true power in social bookmarking.  to best explain this, you must first understand what a social bookmark is.  We all use favorites or bookmarks in our web browsers to store important or useful pages.  Social Bookmark sites are essentially online bookmark services where you can save a page, along with it's details (tags, description) for future reference.  With Social Bookmarks however, OTHER people can also find your bookmark, as can the search engines.  Each time you bookmark your blog posts, you create more links for search engines to find linking back to your blog.  It's really all about numbers, because these types of high page rank Social websites help increase your QUALITY backlinks and therefor your own page rank.

Social Bookmark and similar websites include:

Del.icio.us, Digg.com, Fark.com, Google.com/Bookmarks, Mixx.com, Propeller.com, Reddit.com, Stumbleupon.com, Technorati.com, Twitter.com

Sam Hansen

Hi, this is Sam. That's me to the left standing next to the Stanley Cup.  Yep, i'm a hockey fan.. a BIG hockey fan!  I blame.. errr thank my wife, who got me hooked.  My wife... she's a bigger hockey fan than me... scary eh?

I am involved in the online business industry in a number of diverse ways, originally starting back in 2001 with the early rollout of the Cagora network.

Over the years I have been an online marketer, co-op manager, web researcher, web designer and marketing manager.

These days I am primarily involved in 5 main areas:

  • My own websites, succeed2k.com, healthybodyreport.com, 2minsforhockey.com and lizardinsider.com
  • I design and build Wordpress & Joomla Websites for local businesses (and online people)
  • I am co-owner in TripleQUIKads.com and the TripleUP Group
  • I am involved with Cagora
  • I do web design and marketing work for the QUIK family of sites.
My experience over the years has allowed me to develop some great skills, which I share with you here on succeed2k.com
